The End of A Season

Today was the last day of deer season. Mike was kind of sad, but by the time he got home tonight he said he had hunted enough. LOL! He's waited all season for the big buck that he's been watching on his woods camera, but he's so big because he doesn't come out during the day. He's had lots of opportunities to shoot deer and let them all pass by. Seeing we don't eat the meat, we always give it away, he's very selective and looks for one that would look good on the wall.

For at least the last 3 years we have been watching a deer we called "three leg". We have no idea how she lost a leg, but you would never know she only had three watching her run through the woods. Mike got out to his stand this afternoon and was watching all the deer come in. He noticed that one was limping, and once they got closer he realized it was three leg. Someone had shot her, she was injured and wasn't going to make it. Mike had to shoot her so she wouldn't suffer.

I've got to admit that I am kind of sad. I enjoyed watching her in our back yard, she also had a fawn in the spring. So I am sad thinking about the deer without it's mom. I know....kind of silly, but I am a sap.

Okay, here are some pictures. Mike tried to clean her up the best he could to make her photo worthy. (Some may want to skip this part.)

Boy, is he handsome :0) I'll just skip the deer and look at my sweetie.

Her shoulder socket is there. Not sure if her leg had been shot off or if she was born that way.

Today I got several dozen cookies done. I still have a few more to go tomorrow, along with brownies covered with melted thin mints. My Mom always use to make them at Christmas time and I always enjoyed them.

Almond Butter Cookies

Good evening everyone! I hope you all had a great day. After Kayleigh finished up her school we ran out to purchase things for our shoe boxes. Our church will deliver these shoe boxes in our community of Wednesday. Kayleigh and I have a good time going and picking out things for each shoe box. We had a 2-3 year old boy, 6-9 year old girl, and a 13-14 year old girl.

Here are our bags full of goodies.

After dinner Mike took Kayleigh skiing and I did some baking. I made some vegan Almond Butter cookies and two loaves of banana carob chip bread. I made mention of this on Facebook and I got a request for the cookie recipe from Alana. So here you go :0) Thankfully these are healthy because I have all ready eaten 6 of them.

Almond Cookies

1 cup of organic almond butter, plain - or cashew butter

1/2 cup organic maple syrup

2 TBLS organic grape seed oil

1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp sea salt

1 1/2 cups organic flour, spelt (I use whole wheat)

1/2 cup organic oatmeal

, regular, uncooked

Directions:

Mix liquid ingredients. Mix dry ingredients and add to sweet mixture a little at a time, stirring to mix. Roll into balls. Place on parchment paper and flatten with fork tines. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Can also roll dough into logs and freeze. Thaw, slice into 1/2" slices and bake as above.

After finishing in the kitchen I started stitching. I finished up another valentine stitchery and am ready to start another one.

Now I am getting tired and need to go to bed!

I think I am pretty much ready for Christmas. All the gifts have been purchased and wrapped, although I am still waiting for one to come in the mail. All that's left is the backing, and I will be doing that on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

I just finished and listed my last Christmas stitchery.

I really enjoy stitching Christmas items and I am some what said to be done. Now it's time to start thinking about Valentine's Day.

Tonight we had Teens Bible Study at our house. There are just a few kids left and they are playing the Wii. Tomorrow I will be baking cookies for a Christmas Cantata that Kayleigh and my Mom are singing in on Sunday. Kayleigh will also be singing a solo at church on Sunday. She was practicing it at voice lessons yesterday and it brought tears to my eyes. Hopefully I don't cry on Sunday!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I am sure you will all be busy with last minute things for Christmas. It will be here before we know it!

Spreading Christmas Cheer

Yesterday our home school group went to the Linwood Center, an adult day care center, to spread a little Christmas cheer. They were all so happy to see the kids and really enjoyed our visit.

While we were there the kids helped them finish a peppermint candy wreath.

They all got to decorate Christmas cookies.

But I think they enjoyed the music the best. Three of the kids played Christmas carols on their instruments and they all sang along.

The little lady sitting in front of Ashley enjoyed it so much that she wanted to join in on the fun. Ashley let her blow into her flute and she played a little song.

Here is Kayleigh playing her clarinet.

And Sam playing his saxophone. He did a wonderful job and played several Christmas carols without any music.

All three of them did an outstanding job, and it was so touching to see the joy on their faces.

This gentleman really enjoys doing puzzles. The last time we went he was sitting in the same spot working away. Two of the boys worked with him the whole time we were there.

I think the kids have as much fun as those at the center.

They all love taking pictures and should all be photographers.

I can't believe that Christmas is 8 days away!!!

I still have a few things to get and I am thinking of all the things I need to make.

I don't know where the time is going, but I am thinking I am probably about ready to go into panic mode. LOL!

I believe winter is here to stay and it sure is pretty.

The first two are views out our back door. The trees are so pretty covered with snow.

And here is our front porch. I just got this cute snowman this year.

He lights up and I just love him.

Here is Mike and Paul riding up the driveway. He just put a package in the mail box for me; for you Christy, and now they are going hunting. It's the last day of shotgun and they are hoping the big one decides to come out. Personally I think he's too smart to come out and that's why he's so big and is only seen on Mike's woods camera at night.

I finished these stitchery's today and just listed them in my shop.

These patterns are by Rhonda at Primitive-Stitches. If you been reading my blog for awhile you know how much I love her patters!

I also have to show you our cute little Jack. It's really cold out here and he gets cold really quick, but Loves to go outside. That's why we had to get him a coat. Here he is with his Harley coat on. He was gone for a good hour this morning and when he came home he was all covered with snow. I wiped his head off before I took the picture and I should have left the snow on him. He's so cute.
Gunner decided it was too cold and he came back after he was done doing his business. LOL! I guess they get wiser with age too :0)

This isn't a picture out my window, but it's a pretty picture non the less.

We are getting more snow today and are in the midst of a snow storm, pretty soon we will look like the picture above. :0)

Busy Last Couple Days

Time seems to be flying by! Tuesday night Mike and I went to a home school support meeting/Christmas party for all the parents. That was lots of fun and a late night for me! We didn't get home until almost 11pm! Way past my bed time. Kayleigh went to a friends house while we were there and she even called to see when we would be coming back. She was even getting tired and ready to go home.Today we had a group co-op for our home school group and had a Christmas get together. The kids play

ed relay games and then we all had lunch. Two of the games they played were really cute and I took pictures to share.

The first one they had to run across the gym, put on a pair of gloves, unwrap a Hershey Kiss, eat it and then run back.

That was fun to watch. I was standing at the end of the gym where they had to open the candy and eat it. It's hard for big fingers to open a Hershey Kiss with gloves on, then eat it before they could run back. You wouldn't think it would take long to eat a Hershey Kiss.

The next one they had to pretend they were carrying Christmas packages. The pile had to be above there head and they could not lean the packages toward themselves. They

had to go as quickly as possible without loosing any packages. If they did, they had to go back to the beginning and start over.

Kayleigh did end up loosing her packages. You can see in this picture that they were starting to tip over.

I was surprised to wake up this morning and not see tons of snow. The storm pretty much stayed in the Buffalo area and is headed our way tonight. I bet the view out my window tomorrow morning will be much different.

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Ours was pretty uneventful and I guess that's a good thing. Kayleigh spent some time at a friends house, a little over an hour away, and it was pretty quiet here. A lot of people enjoy the quiet time when their kids are away, but to be honest I don't. I really don't like the quiet, and I enjoy having family around even if we aren't really doing anything. With her being gone I kept myself busy working on these candy cane ornies. They were fun and I think they are pretty cute. I just listed a set of 5 in my Etsy shop today.

I also had one cookie jar left and listed that as well.

It's lightly snowing here and we have about 1" on the ground. That's no where near what we usually have by this time, but that's okay with me. Each year I seem to enjoy the snow less and less.

for some Christmas music. I really can't believe we don't have any snow in Western New York yet, but it's coming. I believe we are supposed to get some this weekend. All of our Christmas decorations are up and we've started our shopping, so I thought it was about time to add some Christmas music.

Speaking of Christmas music, Tuesday night Kayleigh participated in a program that my mom had at her house. My Mom belongs to a music club and each committee puts on different programs throughout the year. They can have people outside of the club join them in these programs, and that's what Kayleigh did. She sang a solo, did a clarinet and piano duet, sang a duet with my mom, and sang in the group songs. It was a really nice program.

I am going to try and figure out how to get Kayleigh's solo on here.

Hello everyone. I was able to get a couple more listings done today :0)

Set of 3 hand stitched snowman ornaments, $5.00

Heavily tea stained prim snowflake candle mat, $6.50.

I also worked on something for myself.

My Mom gave me these electric candle sticks. They were shiny gold and I thought they needed a little prim makeover. I sprayed painted them black and then sanded, added an old hymn, a cloth tie, some sweet annie, and some rusty bells.

Thanksgiving and Catching Up

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a nice day spent with family. We all ate too much and had lots of laughs.

Jean got to make it for dinner. Kayleigh is catching up to her and will probably be taller than her soon.

After dinner at my parents we came home and finished decorating for Christmas.

Here are a few of my decorations...

Let's see...we went shopping on Black Friday. Mike was up real early and headed to WalMart by 4:30am. Then he came and picked me and Kayleigh up around 6:30am and we went to the Chautauqua Mall. We didn't even really stand in long lines or get trampled. LOL! I remember looking at my watch around 10am and thinking it had to be MUCH later than that. We got the majority of our shopping done, and that's always good!

Well, that catches me up from the weekend. Then there's today!

I got up and did all my normal morning things; making my carrot juice, doing my Bible study, exercising, getting cleaned up, and then eating breakfast. I sat down at my desk with my breakfast and I heard my task manager going off....I was thinking, "What? I don't have anything I need to do today...." Well, I had to get my teeth cleaned today. That hour and a half spent running to the dentist, getting my teeth cleaned, and heading home messed up my whole day.

I did manage to get two towels finished and listed today though.

I also just put a snowflake candle mat in the wash. I will list that tomorrow.

It's now 9:15pm and I am ready for bed :)

It is a sad day for the Old Farmhouse Gathering Team.

We just found out today that our team leader, Linda Foster, passed away Thanksgiving Day from a sudden heart attack.

I never personally met Linda, but she touched my heart everyday with her kind words, willingness to help in any way that she could, and the encouragement she so freely gave.

Please take a moment to pray for Linda's family. That God would comfort; as only He can, as they mourn her loss. May He draw them close and be glorified during this tragic time.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

A day filled with the love of family,

and a time of reflection on all that we have been blessed with.

Here are just a few of the things I am thankful for.

First and foremost I am thankful for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for wakening a lost and dead soul to newness of life in Him.

I am thankful for His sinless and perfect life, for His death, burial, and resurrection from the dead. Giving me away to the Father.

I am thankful for His sufferings on that cross, taking the punishment for my sins, and conquering Satan and death.

I am thankful for a God fearing and honoring husband, for his sacrificial love and devotion to our family, for being my rock here on earth.

I am thankful for the blessing of our daughter. For all of the things she has taught me in the 14 years of her life, for the ways she makes me smile everyday. (There's an occasional frown in there too, but this is a Thankful post. LOL)

I am thankful for my parents. For bringing me up in a Christian home, for their unconditional love and guidance, for their grace and patience.

I am thankful for my brother and his family. I don't get to see them much, and I am thankful for the times we can get together.

I am thankful for my pets, Gunner and Jack. They are the best dogs ever and always make me smile. They are always happy to see me when I get home, and they love me unconditionally.

I am thankful for my pastor and his family, for the examples they are to us. For Tim's passion and devotion to spread the good news of the Gospel.

I am thankful for my health, and for all those that God has brought into my path to help me through my trial with MS. I am thankful for the bad and good times, for the person I have become because of them.

I am thankful for the gift of each and every day, for the breathes I take. It is my hearts desire to honor and glorify God in all that I say and do.

This list could go on and on...I hope you are still with me.

With all this said, I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Today was the day for finishing up some things.

I finished my towel order.

They are all pressed and ready to go.

I got another order for a candle mat today, so that is what I am working on tonight.

My customer that ordered the Ginger Cookie Jar just came and picked it up.

Fun Project

I just completed an order for one of my gingers cookie jars.

They are fun to make and a cute way to recycle old cookie jars. I sold one at my open house and got an order for another one.

Last week we went to the Goodwill and I found some great jars for them. I sanded the tops and painted them black, sanded some more, and added some stain.

I mixed up the gingerbread recipe on Friday and baked them on Saturday. The kitchen smelled wonderful and Mike wished they were edible. They look good enough to eat but I am afraid they wouldn't taste very good, might even break a tooth.

I think they will make a great addition to your holiday decorations!

Wonder how many will ask to have a cookie?

I also just finished and listed this cute candle mat in my Etsy shop.

This is another great pattern from Primitive-Stitches.

I am in the process of finishing 4 stitched towels and another stitchery for a Christmas pillow.

I have been on Etsy for a little over a year, but illness made me unable to do much with it until recently.

My dad who was a wonderful floral designer was my biggest fan, and always was proud of what I created. Sadly he passed away four years ago, but I know he's smiling down on me saying, "I am so proud of you."

Something Yummy and Sweet

Bet you are thinking I am going to give you a recipe for something ooey and gooey and chocolaty, and you are close. LOL! Really, this is a nice variation to Cranberry Sauce. I hope you will try it and agree with me that it's yummy and sweet.

Raw Cranberry Sauce

Serves 6-8

2 cups fresh organic cranberries, ground

1 orange (washed to remove any residues) chop very fine including at least 1/2 of the rind.

2 ripe pears, peeled and chopped fine

1 medium apple, peeled and chopped fine

1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped into pieces

4 celery ribs (stalks), chopped fine

1/2 cup organic raisins

1/2 - 1 tsp cinnamon or pumpkin spice

1/4 tsp each of ginger and allspice

1/2 cup raw, unfiltered honey or other sweetener

Grind berries, chop fruit, mince nuts, and chop celery. Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Cover and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Serve on a bed of leaf lettuce.

Option: Leave cranberries whole and place in a saucepan with all remaining ingredients. Turn burner to low and simmer until thickened, stirring occasionally.

I have been working on an order for 4 stitched Christmas towels, I also have an order for an ornamental cookie jar filled with gingerbread cookies. I mixed up the dough today and will cook them tomorrow. I will post pictures when they are all done.

Food You Can Feel Good ABout

The Holiday are quickly approaching and that means lots of food. I thought I would share with you some of my favorite holiday dishes that taste great and are good for you!

Everyone loves that sweet potato casserole that's full of butter and marshmallows. Well, here is one that taste just as good without all the bad stuff.

Sweet Potato Casserole

Serves 6

Sweet potatoes:

3-4 sweet potatoes or enough to equal 3 cups

1 tbls. organic pure vanilla extract

1/4 cup rice milk (any non dairy milk substitute)

Pure organic maple syrup

Bake sweet potatoes, cool slightly, peel and mash. Mix with remaining ingredients. Place in a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish that has been sprayed with grape seed oil.

Note: Can prepare sweet potatoes ahead of time, adding topping just before baking.

Topping:

Combine the following and mix well:

1 cup pure organic maple syrup

1 cup chopped pecans

1/2 cup organic whole wheat flour

Spread topping over sweet potatoes and bake 20 minutes at 300 degrees.

Wild Rice Dressing

Serves 6-8

4 cups organic vegetable stock

3/4 cups Basmati rice

3/4 cups Wild Rice

1 medium onion, chopped

1 pound fresh organic mushrooms, cleaned and sliced (optional)

1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley

1 cup diced celery

1/4 tsp sage

1/8 tsp marjoram

1 cup pecan nuts, chopped

Bring soup stock to a boil and stir in rice's. Lower heat to the lowest temperature, cover and cook until tender about 30 minutes - do not lift lid. With cover still in place, turn off heat and allow the pan to sit for another 15 minutes without removing the cover.

Add remaining ingredients; stir to mix well. Spray a casserole dish with grape seed oil, cover and bake in preheated 350 degree over for about 20 minutes.

Here it is. I still need to do some decorating to make it complete, but I am so pleased with how it turned out.I love the cabinets. My dad made them for us and I made them prim perfect! My Mom said I need to do the toilet seat now because it looks too new.

I know what fabric I would like for the curtain and I am hoping it's still available. I will tea stain that too. I still need to find some things for the shelf. That was a Salvation Army find that I stained and painted black.

This oval mirror wasn't our first choice; the one we had was too big and we had to take it back, but I like the way it looks.

I told Mike that I actually like this bathroom better than our master bathroom and he told me not to get any ideas...LOL! It really scares him when I say, "I've been thinking....".

Well, I am off to work on orders that I received from my open house. I also need to get busy on things for my Etsy shop as I sold the majority of them over the weekend.
